New Account Types

Saturday, July 07, 2012
We have added a new feature on the Account tab that allows you to set your Account Type so we can deliver your mail even better!  You can set this on your account and sub-accounts appropriately.

Setting your Account Type is most useful if you are using an IP pool. We have IP pools specifically for transactional, Marketing and a combination of both. Transactional emails are very different from Marketing emails and it is important for them to be grouped together by IP. By setting the Account Type for each account or sub-account you use to the appropriate type of email will ensure best delivery. If you have a private IP, then in general this setting won’t matter as all of your email will go out on your dedicated IP. If you want to have multiple IP’s for each account then you can use the Account Type to keep track of which account or sub-account you use for which mail. Below is further information explaining the different Account Types:

Transactional

Set your Account Type to Transactional if you use your account or sub-account tosend transactional email only. Transactional email does not require unsubscribefeatures or other requirements that bulk/marketing/newsletter emails require.Transactional emails are emails that are expected by your customers as theyhave invoked an action with your website or business. Here a few examples oftransactional email:
  • Passwords and password resets
  • Order confirmations
  • Payment confirmations
  • Notification on your account
Marketing

Set your Account Type to Marketing if you use your account or sub-account to send marketing/newsletteremail only. Marketing email requires working unsubscribe features or links and requires a physical address of your business among other things to ensure your email is Can-Spam compliant. Please seehttp://business.ftc.gov/documents/bus61-can-spam-act-compliance-guide-businessfor more details on ensuring your Marketing email is legal. Here are a fewexamples of marketing email:
  • Newsletters to your existing customers
  • Marketing emails to potential prospects who have requested information from you
  • Promotional emails to your customers or prospects
Both

In most cases it would be best to create a sub-account if you send both transactional email and marketing email and set the Account Type appropriately for each. This will give you the best delivery as your email will be lumped in pools of similar type. If you don’t want to manage a sub-account or you generally do one or the other then you can set your Account Type to both and that will place your email in a pool where both transactional and bulk email are being delivered.
